The Americana concert will consist of popular military,
marching, and brass band favorites through 225 years of
American History.
The United States Air Force Band of Liberty is a select
group of professional musicians that has been entertaining
audiences throughout the New England region for 25 years.
Originally known as the 541st Air Force Band of the Southwest,
stationed at Luke AFB, Arizona, the unit relocated to Pease
AFB, New Hampshire in 1978. Renamed the Air Force Band
of New England, the band brought its musical message of
pride, patriotism, and professionalism to performances
throughout New England. In 1991, the band was assigned
to Electronics Systems Center, Hanscom Air Force Base,
Massachusetts, adding the state of New York to its geographical
area of responsibility. This change brought a new name
to the band: the United States Air Force Band of Liberty.
In 2003 the unit added New Jersey to its area of responsibility.
The Band of Liberty consists of 61 active duty personnel
who are assigned to two primary ensembles—the Liberty
Pops and the Afterburner popular music combo. Within the
Liberty Pops there are several subgroups, including the
Liberty Big Band, the Colonial Brass quintet, and the New
England Winds woodwind quintet.
The Band performs between four and five hundred engagements
a year, and has appeared at such venues as Lincoln Center
in New York City and the Hatch Shell in Boston. The United
States Air Force Band of Liberty continues to celebrate
our nation’s rich musical heritage, sustain American
patriotism, and enhance esprit de corps for the United
States Air Force.
